Suns out Sky’s blue… spring has finally arrived. The busy bees are really starting to get going now!!! They’re busy increasing their colony size to take advantage of the spring flowers that have burst into life in the last few days, long may this weather continue, we’re definitely due a bit of good settled weather. #spring #springsunshine #beegood #beekind #pollination #csr #employeeengagement #bcorpuk

This blew my mind yesterday… the wonderful folk @themanor_house have let the daisies create a white carpet of flowers for their bees, beautiful. This used to be daisy and flower free, they’ve made a conscious decision to support their bees and other pollinators surrounding their hotel. Better still they’ve had so many great comments from guests about how beautiful it looks. This really made me smile. #beegood #sustainability #beegarden #pollinators #ourenvironment #employeeengagement #happyguest #fieldtofork

With the wind and rain easing this week, thank the Lord. it’s been great to not rush through the hives and take time to stop and really look at how they’re doing… plenty of pollen and nectar now coming in with more and further foraging flights, queens are really ramping up their egg laying and colonies are all expanding nicely!!! This frame shows exactly that with capped cells, larvae and, if you look closely, eggs! The comb is bright and golden from feeding on dandelions, bees love dandelions!!! They’re also bringing in plenty greenish pollen from hawthorn which is beautiful to see, those hedgerows will be laden with berries come the autumn, the birds will be thankful. The circle of life my friends!!! #biodiversity #sustainability #circleoflife #ourenvironment #hedgerows #beethechange #beekind

When the weather permits, currently sleeting? I’m out and about opening the hives removing winter treatments for varroa and rearranging the hives for spring (brood box at the bottom, super on top), this winter has been really tough for the bees due to the excessive wet weather, on the back of the summer which wasn’t great either! This has hindered them getting out and bringing in fresh pollen and ironically fresh water which is vital for their health and existence. Fingers crossed the worst is behind us and April brings some warmth and drier days. #sustainability #beekind #spring #pollinators🐝 #ourenvironmentourresponsibility #csr #employeeengagement

International women’s day is a day we recognise the achievements in the ongoing struggle for gender equality, acknowledging progress while recognising the long and winding road ahead… given a hive is made up by 98% woman, there are literally millions of women in my life. Their efforts are truly incredible, collaborative, strategic, focused, warm, tireless, efficient, caring and creative… they make brilliant decisions every single day about the colony , its welfare and existence. We could learn a little from the bees. Ladies I salute you all, support you and stand with you. #iwd #togetherstronger #bettertogether #genderequality

A busy morning using my GCSE woodwork skills… I knew I should’ve listened more. Building these hives fills me with hope and optimism for the coming spring and summer… Feel blessed to be outside on a day like today, happy knowing that these hives will soon provide a home to 1000’s of busy bees pollinating the fields and hedgerows, helping with biodiversity locally and bringing joy to all our clients… today is a good day! #fieldtofork #ourenvironment #employeeengagement #csr #sustainability #dowhatmakesyouhappy

Want to improve your organisation’s sustainability programme and make a real difference? Now’s the best time of year to let us organise and set up your hives!

Bees pollinate flowers, trees, crops and hedgerows from early spring, through the summer and into autumn. Setting up and introducing your hives in March gives your bees plenty of time to forage for food and build up their stores, ensuring they’re stronger and better prepared for the long winter ahead. Plus, if they’ve made plenty and have an abundance of flavoursome honey, we can harvest the surplus for you to enjoy!

Sounding good? Find your perfect plan on our website, or get in touch to discuss bespoke options 🐝

Happy Valentine’s Day! 💗

Did you know St. Valentine is also the patron saint of beekeepers?

Legend has it that St. Valentine had great love for the beautiful and amazing creatures and kept bees himself. Beekeepers around the world now leave honey and wax candles at his altar hoping to keep their bees thriving and their honey sweet 🐝
