The farmer has patience and trusts the process. He just has the faith and deep understanding that through his daily efforts, the harvest will come.And then one day, almost out of nowhere, it does…. Such wise words that I constantly remind myself. Nature finds a way, even when the odds and weather are stacked against it! Pretty much gathered in all the honey supers now, which feels like a momentous occasion. All the hard work throughout the spring and summer has brought us here, to this moment. It feels celebratory and remarkable that all the surplus honey we’ve harvested has come from our trees, hedgerows, gardens and fields and distilled down into this magical golden liquid. We were taught at school to be thankful for the harvest each year, I now truly truly understand this and feel incredibly grateful for this beautiful bounty and to be part of this wonderful occasion. The commute to work for this lovely lot was somewhat different today, climb in and hold on!!! Whilst we all know that the bees are vital to our very existence, play a major role in the world’s food production and a vital cog in our biodiversity… what these lucky few from @hartnelltaylorcook learnt today was the pure joy of being outside, immersed in nature with colleagues and friends and how incredibly good this is for us and our wellbeing. When I began this business a few years ago I hadn’t really legislated for how powerful these sessions would be and how the act of putting on some silly white suits, lighting a smoker and cracking open a few hives brings people together and creates happiness. Brilliant! Today’s gang were great fun, they all have!!! It’s that time again… the honey harvest is pretty much here!!! It’s pure magic to see the frames full of golden honey, covered in the beautiful white capping which is a beekeepers delight… the supers are heavy, the work is hot but it’s so amazing to think all of this has come from the gardens, fields, trees and hedgerows that surround the hives. It’s during these foraging flights to literally millions of different flowers for nectar and pollen that the small miracle of pollination occurs!!! Tree branches begin to bend with fruit, hedgerows are laden with berries, without the bees and other pollinators none of these sweet treats would be here for us and other wildlife to enjoy. So the honey is quite literally the sweetener, the real brilliance is the pollination of all of these other plants that are so important to all of our wildlife and biodiversity 👏🏻🌍❤️🐝 #biodiversity #sustainability #pollination #beekind #hedgerow #foraging #fieldtoforkuk #ukcountryside

Well the sun eventually arrived we went from 14* to 28*pretty much overnight. The bees are making up for lost time busying themselves hour after hour out foraging and pollinating the crops and hedgerows… so pleased to get almost a hundred people in suits this month, connecting people with nature and talking about the bees is such a joyful experience, I totally love these sessions!!! Makes me so happy that my clients care enough about their people to afford their employees the time off to attend these, bringing people together, creating moments, as well as giving back to nature and the world we live in. This is a beekeepers dream… rows of honey covered in beautiful white wax capping!!! Sad to admit but when I see this my heart skips a beat. The capping tells us it’s done, it’s perfect!!! Left in the comb and sealed like this the honey will last forever, it’s so pure it can’t go off or spoil… blows my mind. To think all of this honey has come from the fields, trees and flowers in the hedgerows from a miles around. All pollinated by those hard working bees. The mice and birds will be delighted when all the wild berries ripen later in the year. #gratitude #biodiversity #nature #fieldtofork #beekind #ukcountryside

I think we’re all in agreement that we’ve missed the sunshine and warmer weather… I know the bees certainly have!!! Towards the end of last week I had an email from the British Beekeeper Association sent out to all bee keepers across the UK with a warning of Starvation for our bees. The weather has been rubbish which has meant foraging flights have been shorter and they’ve used up much more food than normal to stay warm, in short they’re eating more than they’re bringing in? Within a week of warmer weather you can see a massive difference with the bees out taking advantage of these long summer days bringing in lots of food and replenishing stores… our philosophy of never over crowding apiaries and being mindful of food available has certainly helped our hives through this period and in some circumstances they’ve still managed to really prosper!!! So pray for sunshine not only for our own sanity but for the bees too. And #dontforgetthesunscreen #ourenvironment #sustainability #fieldtofork #biodiversity #pollination #beegood #beekind #nature
